World’s Oldest Known Handbag – 700 Years Old Courtauld Bag

The Courtauld Gallery's handbag
In what appeared to be the world’s oldest handbag made in Mosul, Iraq around 1300 to 1330, historians at Courtauld Gallery in central London uncovers the truth behind this 700 years old brass handbag inlaid with gold and silver. Over the years that it was discovered, researchers has named it a box, a basket and even calling it a saddle bag. One of the best preserved work of art from the past and the very first resemblance of a handbag of what women of today carries. The Courtauld bag as it is known was donated by the grandson of a Victorian collector to Courtauld gallery back in 1966.
